Bush, Klemke tabbed AC Athletes of the Week

Second baseman Payton Bush and pitcher Colton Klemke played vital roles in AC’s series victory against Frank Phillips College on Sunday and Monday to begin conference play.

For their performances, the duo earned Amarillo College Athlete of the Week honors for the first time this season.

Bush, a Randall High alum, had a perfect series in the field (1.000 fielding percentage) and his most productive four-game stretch at the plate. The 2023 Amarillo Globe News Player of the Year recorded a .429 batting average via six hits in 13 at bats.

He scored a team-high 5 runs, had one double, and one stolen base.

Klemke’s rise in the Badgers bullpen took another significant leap forward during Monday’s game four. The Lubbock Cooper High School alum became the team’s second pitcher to record at least seven strikeouts while allowing no earned runs.

He threw the final five innings of the series finale against the Plainsmen to earn the victory.
