Avila, Klemke named AC Athletes of the Week

Sophomore shortstop Jan Avila had the most productive four-game stretch of his Badger career last week and etched his name in the Amarillo College baseball record book in the process.

Avila became the first Badger to hit for the cycle and hit two home runs in the same game, doing so against the Wayland Baptist JV team on April 16 in Plainview.

The Rutgers University baseball signee also had the best offensive series for AC against Odessa College last weekend. Avila hit the team’s lone home run during the Badgers three-game homestand and finished the series with a .400 batting average.

Colton Klemke made two pitching appearances during AC’s four-game slate a week ago. The freshman from Lubbock struck out five batters and allowed one hit over three innings and two appearances.

Klemke and Avila have now claimed the AC Pitcher of the Week and AC Position Player of the Week twice this season respectively.
