AC baseball moves upcoming series against Midland College to Sunday and Monday at Wilder Park

The Badgers’ upcoming home series against Midland College has been moved to West Texas A&M University’s Wilder Park on Sunday and Monday, April 6-7, due to weather conditions.

Doubleheaders on both days are scheduled to begin at noon.

The meeting between the programs pits the fifth place Badgers against the top ranked opponent in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. No. 7 Midland College is tied for first place in the WJCAC standings with a 14-2 record in conference play.

AC has a 10-6 WJCAC record after four conference matchups following a 2-2 showing against Howard College in Big Spring last weekend.

Game one is likely to feature a pair of NCAA Division I signees on the hill. AC’s Logan Tibbett, an Appalachian State baseball commit, and Jacob Kuhn, a Texas Tech commit.

Kuhn has an 8-0 record this season while Tibbett is coming off his two best performances of the season, including a 12-strikeout performance against El Paso Community College and a complete-game victory with one earned run at Howard College.

Following suit with the previous two series, AC’s top 15 offense will go up against another juggernaut at the plate.

Midland College leads the country in batting average (.389) and is second in the slugging percentage column at .655. Amarillo College is tied for 14th in batting average (.347) at the NJCAA Division I level and eighth in slugging (.597).

AC holds a distinct advantage in the home run department with the fifth-best total (50) in the country while the Chaps rank 36th with 37 homers.

AC sophomore David De Hoyos ranks 19th in slugging percentage (.763) for hitters with at least 100 at-bats and leads the Badgers in homers with nine.

AC’s lineup features seven batters who have a .300 batting average or higher with at least 50 at-bats. Brooks Carter leads the pack with a .453 average, followed by Gerardo Prado (.419), Jacob Sullens (.365), De Hoyos (.351), Zyon Hamilton (.346), Payton Bush (.339), Aidan Young (.333), and Brandon Dickinson (.314).

Midland’s Josh Wulfert paces the Chaps at the plate with the second-highest batting average (.491) at the NJCAA D-I level for hitters with at least 100 at-bats and a .868 slugging percentage.

The series will be streamed on the Texas Panhandle Sports Network.

Admission is free to the event for all attendees.
