Regalado, Kenney lead Badgers at Texas Tech Open
Following a school-record performance the week prior, freshman standout Lane Kenney broke the 26-minute barrier once again on Friday morning at the Texas Tech Open.
The Tascosa High graduate placed 19th in a competitive field of 105 runners with an 8k time of 25 minutes 58 seconds – the third-fastest mark in program history.
Freshman Mia Regalado led the Lady Badgers for the first time this season during AC's first 6k race of the 2024 campaign. The Midland Legacy High School product placed 52nd out of 113 runners, clocking a 25:57 in the women's 3.72-mile event.
"Considering the course was likely the toughest we'll run on all season, both Lane and Mia ran great races. They have continued to improve each outing," Badger head coach Sean Hargrove said. "The top 3 girls ran good as well."
Freshman Mallory Moore had the second-highest finish for the Lady Badgers (55th place, 26:08), followed by Mia Lujan, who took 62nd place in a time of 26:27.
Both Amarillo College teams took ninth place in 11-team fields.
The AC men's team – without No. 2 runner Jerin Perkins – surpassed conference foe Western Texas College during the event. AC tallied 238 points while WTC finished with 292.
Previously, the Westerners finished ahead of the Badgers men's team at AC's season-opening meet in Abilene on Aug. 30.
Following Kenney for the Badger men's team was Hugo Briones (46th place) and Brian Corona (74th).
Below are the complete results for both Amarillo College teams.
