Amarillo College cross country places second at NMJC Invite

The Badger XC programs continued their fast start to the season with a pair of second place finishes on Sept. 22 at the New Mexico Junior College Invitational.

“Both teams showed that we have tremendous depth. Our times are far ahead of where we were at this time last year.” said Amarillo College head coach Sean Hargrove.

The 22nd ranked Badger men tallied 57 team points and edged 24th ranked South Plains by 11 points. NMJC won the men’s division with 11 points.

Sophomore Gabe Enriquez led the men’s squad with a 12th place finish in a time of 26 minutes 22 seconds.

The time is 48 seconds faster than his mark at the Badgers’ third meet in 2022.

Sophomore Colton Thurman placed 15th and improved his time by 1 minutes and 16 seconds from the week prior, followed by freshman Hugo Briones with a 17th place finish.

Christian Rosales made the largest time improvement of the men’s team, cutting his time by 2 minutes and 1 second. The freshman placed 18th, 11 seconds behind Briones.

The 23rd ranked Lady Badgers placed second with 55 points while South Plains took third with 65. NMJC won the women’s division with 17 points.

Sophomore Ariyah Gomez placed fourth in the women’s division and finished one spot ahead of New Mexico Junior College’s Carolyne Kimaiyo, who crossed the finish line 11 seconds ahead of Gomez the week prior.

Freshman Eliana Arredondo had the largest time improvement for the Badgers, knocking her time down 2 minutes and 29 seconds from AC’s first meet on Sept. 1.
