Badgers place in top 3 to open season at Naimadu Classic
A pair of former Tascosa Rebels led the Amarillo College cross country team at its season-opening meet on Friday in Abilene.
Lane Kenney paced the Badger men in his AC debut, placing 10th out of 34 competitors in a 6K time of 19 minutes 29 seconds at the Naimadu Classic.
Mallory Moore led the Lady Badgers to a second-place finish as a unit during the women's 4K. The freshman crossed the finish line in 15 minutes 57 seconds to place 12th.
The Amarillo College men's team took third place in a four-team race with 78 points – 11 behind runner-up Western Texas College.
The AC women edged McMurry University by three points (62-65) to finish in second place.
Midland Legacy product and freshman Mia Regaldo finished second on the team, placing 16th (16:19).
Dumas native Mia Lujan took 18th (16:41), followed by freshman Savannah Belcher, who finished in 20th place (16:51).
In the men's division, returning sophomore Jerin Perkins clocked the second-best 6k time on the Badgers roster (20:21) to finish in 18th place.
Brian Corona, Hugo Briones, and Marty Fletcher placed 23rd, 24th, and 25th respectively.
Up next for the Badgers is Aggie Duels in Lawton, Oklahoma on Friday, Sept. 6. The race distances will increase to the standard race length in college – 5k for women and 8k for men.
