Badger cross country claims team titles at Greyhound Invite

For the second consecutive season, the Amarillo College cross country teams were crowned Greyhound Invite champions.

Lane Kenney, Hugo Briones, and Brian Corona finished 1-2-3 in the men's division and Mia Lujan earned a gold medal for the Lady Badgers on Saturday in Portales, New Mexico.

Kenney, a Tascosa High School product, captured the first individual title in team history with the victory. The freshman crossed the finish line of the men's 8K race in 27 minutes 10 seconds.

Sophomore and Tuila native, Briones, placed second and Dumas High School alum, Corona, took the bronze.

The Badger men's team tallied 21 points – 22 less than runner-up Eastern New Mexico.

Lujan – the Lady Badgers 5K school-record holder – placed first with a 6K time of 24:42. The mark is the third-fastest time in team history.

With the individual title, Lujan joins former NJCAA All-American Ariyah Gomez as the second Lady Badger to win the event.

Tascosa High School product Mallory Moore placed third (24:58) and fellow freshman Mia Regalado took fourth place (25:12).

The AC women's team finished the event with 30 points while runner-up Midwestern State University tallied 50 points.

The performances by both Badger teams proved to be the most dominant in program history as each squad had four runners place in the top 10 for the first time since the reboot of athletics at AC in 2022.
